I’m bringing my other—er, I mean, better—half to you today because I wanted to show you all the cool features of the CommentLuv Pro, which I just installed here on the Judy Lee Dunn blog. Well, to be perfectly honest, it was Bob who did the installing. I just kind of leaned over his shoulder and watched. My goal, always, is to make changes that make the reading and commenting experience better for you. Please let me know how you feel about this new commenting system, where else? Why in the comments, of course!
If you are regular follower here at Judy’s blog, you probably have noticed the change in the commenting system. She has tested a few, and with the help of my tech skills, she makes changes from time to time in an effort to make the experience better for you.
Just last week, she moved back to the free version of CommentLuv. Using this with the WordPress vanilla commenting system (in other words the default system that comes with WordPress), she felt like she was getting closer to what she wanted. That would be treating all readers fairly by allowing them a link back to the post of their choice.
All was good, but then along came CommentLuv Pro. Whoa, did that change things.
With the free version, you’ve always had the ability to give your readers some CommentLuv. That means they get a choice of 10 of their latest posts to choose from when they leave a comment. This can be given to anyone who leaves a comment or, if you wish, only to your subscribers. (I would recommend if you are using the free version, give everyone some luv.)
If you look at the screenshots below, you see that once I have put in my URL, I get the list to choose from. This list will only appear if a commenter puts their URL in the URL field. And once your cursor is in the comment box, the list appears. You will see by default, the last post is selected, but you have the option to choose another one, which is what I did.
Once you have finished your comment and post it, you will see the Luv.
Then along came CommentLuv Pro
You can see the benefit for a commenter using the free version. But how about the blogger? What do you get in return for the Luv you are sharing?
That’s where CommentLuv Pro comes in.
The Pro version combines 8 plugins into one. If you install the Pro version, I highly recommend watching all of their tutorial videos on their site. There’s a lot of great stuff you can do with it and those videos will help explain how to get the most out of this plugin.
Other CommentLuv Pro benefits
The Pro version still gives 10 recent posts to choose from. And like the free version, you can choose to give it to everyone, or just to people who are subscribed to your blog. Or, you can give them to a commenter who has made a certain number of approved comments.
Enticements are cool because they allow bloggers to reward people who share their posts. For example, commenters automatically get a link back to their most recent post. But with enticements, you also have the option to give them more of their past posts to choose from if they share your content on Google+, Twitter or Facebook. It’s a win-win: an enticement for them, a benefit for you.
2. Favorite Posts
Whenever you are on a blog that has CommentLuv enabled, you can also choose specific posts, and even pages to appear in your list when you leave a comment. This is a great option if you want to share an older, popular post, or even a post or page that has a special offer of a product or service.
3. Info Panel
This is an opportunity to create a profile panel that will appear when you are on a site that uses CommentLuv and someone hovers over the icon next to your last blog post. You get a nice editor-type window to create your bio, with the options to add links, etc, as well as the recent posts and favorites I described above. To see this in action, find a comment below of mine and hover over the CommentLuv icon next to my last post.
4. Twitter Link
With the Pro version, you can now add a field so commenters can include their Twitter handle and a link to their Twitter profile. As you can see in the screenshot below, now a Twitter link appears under my name. Again, this is giving your commenters even more ‘Luv.’
5. Spam Go Away
This feature really impressed me. Incorporate the plugin G.A.S.P with CommentLuv Pro and you get even more control over that nasty spam. There are several options—too many to go over in this post— but trust me, you will love it.
For example, you can set a minimum requirement for number of words in a post. By setting this to 5, say goodbye to spammy and useless comments like “Great post dude.” Also, it provides a box that commenters need to check in order to prove they are a real person, and not a spambot.
You can even control the number of seconds someone has to be on the page before they can leave a comment. This helps eliminate those rooms that are full of people who are hired to hit blogs and drop in generic, spammy comments, without even reading the post. This slows those buggers down!
There is a lot more you can do, including controlling trackbacks, allowing extra keywords in the commenter’s name (or not) and a bunch of other great anti-spam options.
So in a nutshell, I would have to say CommentLuv Pro (affiliate link) is well worth the money.
What are your thoughts?
Do you like the idea of giving your readers some Luv?
