100 Writing Women Celebrate the Seasons of their Lives

seasons of our lives winter

Sometimes a project comes along that catches my eye. Several months ago, Matilda Butler and Kendra Bonnett over at Women’s Memoirs put a call out for stories for their Seasons of Our Lives writing competition.

I was in the middle of the first draft of my memoir and the timing was perfect. Matilda and Kendra asked for memoir vignettes about a turning point in our lives. An event that changed the way we see the world and our place in it.

I  wrote my story, emailed it and promptly forgot about it. Sometime before Christmas I opened my inbox to find out that my story was one of those selected for publication in a series of four ebooks.

Today marks the Amazon launch of Seasons of Our Lives: Award-winning Stories from WomensMemoirs.com. The stories offer a glimpse of humanity through the eyes of a vastly diverse group of 100 women writers. I am amazed and honored to be counted among these talented women.

100 Writers- 100 Unique and Inspiring Tales

My story, A Wild Winter’s Eve, is a part of Seasons of Our Lives: Winter, but each season has its own engaging and heartwarming vignettes. Through character, dialogue and plot, these writers have pulled memories from their observed experiences to pinpoint a turning point in their lives and reflect on their emotional growth. Their stories shine with authenticity.

Plus 100 Writing Lessons

The editors, Kendra and Matilda, have taken these stories to an entirely new level to help aspiring and practicing writers. Each story is followed by a mini-lesson on what makes them work from an editor’s perspective. So, 100 entertaining stories and 100 writing lessons to apply to make your own stories stronger. As a former teacher, writer and lifelong learner, this feature alone is worth the price of this book collection, at least for me.

A Few Sample Reviews of Seasons of Our Lives

…each woman is a story waiting to be told—and in this outstanding collection of memoirs you’ll find many wonderful stories…as I read them, I am reading bits and pieces from my own life and I am inspired to write my own with a more passionate and compassionate heart.

Susan Wittig Albert, New York Times bestselling author

… A bouquet of award-winning stories that engage, inspire, and also teach. Matilda Butler and Kendra Bonnett’s “Takeaways” on each piece illuminate the modes of thought and specific techniques that make each story work. A delight for anyone who enjoys compelling stories as well as a handbook for those who desire to tell and write their own.

Congratulations! I’m going to order them now. I can’t wait for your whole memoir. I know I’ve mentioned this to you before, but check out Christina Baldwin’s course “The Self as the Source of the Story.” It’s life changing. Many people have received publishing contracts after taking this intensive several-day boost.

So what’s next? When will your memoir be ready? Can I anticipate a summer read on my Minnesota trip?

    Big hugs to you both…

Judy, What great news. Congratulations. Will get some copies of my own. Hope all is well with you and the writing is going well. I’m beginning to plug along after a month long hiatus and house renovation. Feels good to get back to work.

    Joan,

Good to hear that you are back on track with your writing. I had a few personal/family issues come up in the last month, so I understand that well. Thank you for purchasing the book!
